With the prevalent use of multiple monitors comes the ability to set up your own zones (not just 50% left and 50% on the right) unique to each monitor. I have 1920 pixels of width on resolution of my monitors, and I definitely do not want Skype consuming over twice what it needs in order to routinely put it exactly where I want it in my desktop real estate.Įnter FancyZones, a much-needed update from Windows 7, 8, and 10. I set the config and after the computer goes to sleep it changes both monitors (4k) back to priority-grid from my custom layout.My last blog referenced PowerToys as they existed in Windows 95 through Windows XP. Happens to me too after my computer goes to sleep (v0.47.0). So thanks for sacrificing your installation and settings to let me know that it was a local config issue, which allowed me to find a less destructive repair! I decided to investigate a little further to see if anything could be achieved non-destructively, and found it to be related entirely to one single file, the one responsible for storing window locations so the "move newly created windows to the last known zone" setting can save its reference points.īy merely closing PowerToys, deleting %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\PowerToys\FancyZones\app-zone-history.json and then re-launching, it has completely solved the resetting issue for me, and no re-configuration needed, as that file will be recreated automatically. I hope this works for you, as it did to me.
Does maintain your FancyZones after ScreenLock, Sleep or Restart, Yes. Does that mean you have to start all PowerToys configuration from scratch, Yes.
Turn off PowerToys, Go to C:\Users\AppData\Local\Microsoft\PowerToys and delete everything inside it. OK, I think i found the solution to the FancyZones reset, but you might not like it.
